Planning Commission deputy chairman Montek Singh Ahluwalia, after a meeting with chief minister Tarun Gogoi, said the state has been impressive in agriculture, infrastructure development, health and education sectors. “The state government deserves appreciation for the good show in the agriculture sector and in improving the key parameters so far as reduction of infant mortality and maternal mortality rates is concerned,” the deputy chairman said.
the Planning Commission on Tuesday raised the state’s annual plan for 2013-14 by Rs 2000 crore over last year and fixed it at an all-time high of Rs 12,500 crore. The deputy chairman pointed out that high gender gap of 11.54 per cent in literacy and also advised the state to build health information system by networking of all health service providers and establish state level disease surveillance systems. The state was advised to use technology to reduce power losses, while innovative approach to create investment friendly environment in industry was recommended.
